Collage Selection
Wherever I travel, or am or just stay for a while, I study my environment and surroundings, the culture and traditions through the artistic practice of a unique collage series on site.
Frame and volume of each series is specified by space, time and location.
I work this way with the medium collage since approximately over 20 years amongst others in Athens, Greek Islands such as Kreta, Antiparos, Kea, Lebanon/Beirut, India/Delhi, Cyprus, Nigeria/Abuja/Lagos, Lower Austria, Norway, US/New York/Boston, Munich, Berlin, Arlberg to be continued…
I am a paper surgeon
a beauty surgeon of two dimensions
I dissect the culture around me
I get to know it
study her traces and visualities
find differences and similarities
by cutting found paper into pieces
and glue them together again
I add the missing pieces
and cut out that which is too much
I rearrange reality
weird means fate
I rematriate
through scissors paper and hands

Collages
I understand my approach to my collage work as a technique of rearranging and/or correcting “realities”, as mapping scoial landscapes by creating collages from found local paper footages as a form of synaisthetic* paper-surgery. The “other eye” (a reoccurring feature in my collages) studies the details of identifications, differences, aisthetics and emotions with a light-hearted subtle critic. It simultaneously keeps track of the overall big picture and therefore offers a new perspective for the viewer.
Where ever I travel - I create a collage series. The concept is given by the circumnstances and materials I find on site. Each sereis is produced and finished on site.
*synaisthetic (my word creation: syn + aisthesis) = interconnected sensesaisthesis = multisensory perception, more than visual
